About us

We are Fan and Rebecca, two independent social designers who care about the wellbeing and work of pioneering, purpose led people. We have more than a decade of experience working as designers, researchers and coaches for clients including NEF, Mind, The Innovation Unit, Design Council, National Children’s Bureau, Soil Association, FutureGov, The Government Digital Service, Nile, Bloomberg Philanthropies and Lankelly Chase. We are both advocates for lifetime learning and are proud Enrol Yourself alumni.

I am an independent social designer, qualitative researcher and coach with a background in innovation consulting, youth and community work, and ethnographic research. I am interested in all things that help people to listen and be listened to. I draw on this plus a combination of social science and design-led approaches to solve complex user, business and organisational challenges for clients across the sectors. At the start of last year I led a smart cities project called Colour in City which looked at how we can put personal data back into people’s hands using chatbot technology. At the end of last year, after working together on design for good projects and training since 2014, Fan and I came together to form HeartWorks.

I am an Anthropology graduate, hold an MDes in Design Innovation and am a member of the Association for Coaching. You can see more of my work history here.

I am an independent social designer and a worrier. I have more than 7 years of experience conducting and leading social innovation, service design and research projects, mainly for the public sector around mental health, social care and community wellbeing. My work tends to be driven by empathy and I strongly believe in the power of storytelling to drive change. I also produce a podcast about hope and activism called the Hope Rising.

I am a visual communication graduate and hold an MA in Design for Development.

You can see examples of my work on my online portfolio.
